Cataract Surgery Outcomes Audit 2008

Eye & Retina Surgeons, Singapore

In 2008, surgeons from Eye & Retina Surgeons performed 405 cataract operations; 6 were manual extracapsular extractions and 399 were phacoemulsification.

We are pleased to present our results compared with those institutions and private practices in Singapore that have performed audits.

1. Results

  1. Mean best corrected visual acuity post-phacoemulsification after excluding pre-existing pathology and ECCE cases (n=350) was logMAR 0.09 (6/7.5+)

  2. Success rate = 99.42% (% of eyes with vision of 6/12, logMAR 0.3 or better best corrected)
  3. Posterior capsule rupture rate = 0.25% (1 of 399 phaco cases)
  4. No cases of endophthalmitis
  5. Safety rate = 99.75% (% of eyes without complications such as posterior capsular rupture or endophthalmitis).
