Dr Ong Sze Guan is Founding Partner & Senior Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Vitreoretinal Surgery at Eye & Retina Surgeons, Camden Medical Centre. He is also Senior Consultant, Vitreoretinal Division, Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He is also Head of Training and Education SNEC, and is Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology, National University of Singapore. His main areas of interest in the retina are in advanced surgical techniques and instrumentation and the surgical treatment of macular diseases.
As Head of Training and Education, he oversees the complete curriculum of ophthalmic training for undergraduate, postgraduate basic training and advanced subspecialty training as well as the overseas fellowship programmes, continuing medical education for family physicians, nursing programmers and ophthalmic technician courses. He is also in charge of the local, regional and international courses, live surgery demonstrations and scientific meetings. Since 1990, he has delivered several invited lectures and conducted numerous instructional courses on vitreoretinal surgery in the region, namely, in Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and the People’s Republic of China.
Professor Ong received his training at the Moorfields Eye Hospital (London), Tennent Institute (Glasgow) and the Bristol Eye Hospital (Bristol). He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the college of Ophthalmologists (UK) in 1998. He subspecialises in Vitreoretinal Medicine & Surgery and completed his Research Fellowship in Retina at the Cornell University Medial College (USA) in 1993.
