Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) LASER

When there are major problems in the centre of the retina in the macula layer(eg wet form of age-related macular degeneration); it is frequently difficult to laser the macula directly. Photodynamic therapy uses a photosensitive dye to selective treat the problem area and yet spare the normal tissues.

PDT is like using a sophisticated guided missile to target and destroy only diseased tissue and not normal, healthy tissue.
